Haul: Victoria's Secret & Drugstore

Only shopped a little bit this weekend. I'm reeeaaaally trying to be good, but sometimes I just can't help myself! Living in Wisconsin with such cold and gloomy weather certainly doesn't help things any... sometimes a girl just needs some retail therapy :)

Victoria's Secret

VS for me is often hit and miss. I find most of their "wearables" to be ridiculously overpriced and of pretty mediocre quality. I do, however, love their body care and cosmetics! Initially, I had gone in hoping to find a new body lotion, but ended up finding a few more things than just that... I always get lured in by their deals. Items from their Beauty Rush line were 3 for $25 (I think?) so I picked up a Body Lotion, 3-in-1 Wash and a Body Mist in the scent "Candy, Baby" which smells SO good! My first thought was that it smelled like Aquolina's Pink Sugar purfume, but VS's is a bit softer. The 3-in-1 wash claims it can be used as a shower gel, bubble bath and a hair wash, but I think i'll only use it for shower or bath gel!

I also couldn't resist but pick up a couple of their Beauty Rush single eyeshadows. They had some gorgeous colors (and I think I'll need to go back for some more!) but I only purchased the two I felt I would appreciate most amidst my many other eyeshadows :D

The first color that caught my eye was Flower Girl, a
super sheer, shimmery lilac-pink, which actually reminds me somewhat of the MAC shadow Et tu, Boquet? which came out with their Rose Romance collection... which, ironically, I gave away quite awhile ago because I didn't really care for it, lol.

Regardless, I've been lusting for a lavender shadow for quite sometime and this is perfect. I'm also thinking of doing a Valentine's Day look with it!

The second shadow is Bronzinger, a super super pigmented bronzed brown. Despite the fact that I already have a dozen (or several dozen...) brown eyeshadows already, it was gorgeous and I couldn't resist!

"Bronzinger" is kind of like... if MAC's Woodwinked and Mulch had a baby. It's a perfect medium brown with fine golden shimmer.
...and literally, all it took to make the swatch in that picture was one good swipe.

Just a few things purchased at Walgreens as well... A bit of an impulse buy, I picked up Cover Girl's Clean Makeup for Oil Control. Generally, I steer clear of CG products. CG compacts and eyeshadows were the first cosmetics I ever bought, so for me, they are reminiscent of elementary/middle school makeup horror (i.e. too-powdery face, thick purple eyeshadow and the like...). I've never been able to get past that memory-jogging powder scent of the line. It seems lately though, they've reformulated and redesigned most of their products, and I thought trying out a foundation was worth the $4.something I paid for it. Fingers crossed that this is at least as good as Revlon's ColorStay Foundation, which in comparison, is about twice the price for the same amount of product.

Admittedly, the Borghese Nail Lacquer was an unnecessary impulse as well... It was on clearance at Walgreens for under $3, and I'm a sucker for a creamy nude.

Lastly, I gave in and got one of Sally Hansen's new Complete Salon Manicure polishes that I've seen on display a few times now, but have always past by. Supposedly, it's a base coat, polish, and top coat all in one. That part doesn't really do much for me... yes, of course it's a great gimmick, but for me, the greatest draw from this line was the color selection! There were some beautiful creamy muted colors to choose from, but ultimately, I couldn't resist Naked Ambition 210, a pastel pink with find silver shimmer. Sounds tacky, I know, but a nail swatch proved it was far from it. The shimmers in this are super fine, so amidst the soft color of the actual polish, it doesn't stand out too much, but still gives a nice brightening effect. More on this to follow, along with pictures too :D

Products I'm Using Right Now

I've seen this post on several blogs and thought I'd jump on the bandwagon! I think it's a really great way to get a feel for the blogger's tastes :D

Paul Mitchell Color Protect Daily Shampoo & Conditioner
Amazing products! They are made for gentle cleansing and conditioning, so your hair feels light and soft - also keeps color strong!

Redken All Soft Heavy Cream
I use this as an extra treatment a couple times per week. Smells like HEAVEN (as do most Redken products) and makes my hair feel like silk.

Styling Products:
Redken Align 12 Straightening Lotion - Makes hair soft, and protects during blow drying.

Aveda Brilliant Damage Control Spray
- A necessity for flat ironing!

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
- HG! Smells like tropical fruit, smooths all flyaways.

Redken Quick Dry 18 Hairspray
- Basic light hold finishing spray.

Shower Gel:
Dove White Bar Soap
I have quite oily skin/hair and I find a lot of shower creams and gels exacerbate the oilies. I love Dove products in general, and this bar soap cleanses without drying out my skin or leaving a residue.

Body Moisturizer:
Dove Cream Oil Body Lotion
Again, I love Dove :) Despite the name "Cream Oil," this is actually a fairly light moisturizer. Works wonders and smells so good!

Dove Ultimate in Smooth Cashmere
I never stray from Dove deodorant! Works well, is moisturizing, and doesn't irritate underarms after shaving.

Cleanser (Used w/Clarisonic):
Mario Bedescu Acne Facial Cleanser - Gentle wash w/Salicylic Acid (Not sure how I feel about this yet!)

Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask
- Thick creamy wash w/Benzoyl Peroxide, feels tingly on the skin, rinses clean.

Olay Regenerist Daily Thermal Mini-Peel
So amazing! This is a self-warming micro-crystal scrub with Glycolic Acid. It's a treat to use in the wintertime (or anytime for that matter!), and the fine fine fine particles exfoliate better than a more conventional scrub like St. Ives.

Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1W1 Bone - Upcoming review on this!

Bare Minerals in 1N Fairly Light
- Love the effect of this foundation but it makes my skin super oily! I only use this in the winter... Need to try the matte formulation, methinks.

Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Compact Foundation in Warm Ivory
- Upcoming review on this product as well!

MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW15
- Nice buildable coverage for oily skin :) Great to touch up with throughout the day, as well.

Primer: N/A - I have yet to find a primer that really works for my oily skin :(

Foundation Brush:
MAC 190 - Can't go wrong with a tradition foundation brush.

- Perfect size for buffing in mineral or powder foundations! Just wish the handle was longer...

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Perfect for setting foundations! It's finely milled, super soft when applying, absorbs oils and never cakes.

Bobbi Brown Cream Concealer in Warm Ivory
HG concealer - Like the name implies, it's super creamy and blendable, not to mention moisturizing like all get out. Covers both blemishes and undereye darkness like a dream (even without Bobbi's corrector!) and has nice staying power.

MAC Mocha (Matte)
Fave blush of the moment! The most flattering shade of soft pink on pale skin. Not too cool of an undertone, and not too peachy either. Perfection.

Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Apricot Berry
As beautiful on the cheek as it is in the pan! It's a melange of pastel pink, raspberry, bronze and burgandy shimmers... makes for a warm raspberry sheen when applied.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Light 1
HG Bronzer! Has a nice matte finish, and this shade, naturally, is perfect for the palest of pale skins. It's quite sheer and buildable, but doesn't have any orangeness to it at all. Loooooovee it.

NARS Albatross
Gives the softest, most flattering golden glow. The gold shimmer is super fine, so it doesn't enhance the look of pores and fine lines as some highlighters do. Would repurchase, but I suspect this baby will last me for quite awhile...

Eyeshadow Base:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Was a die-hard UDPP user forever, but the packaging finally got to me, and I made the switch. Honestly, I don't notice much of a difference between the two. Both work phenomenally for oily eyelids!

Eyeshadows: Post on my palettes is coming...
MAC Mylar, Twinks, Cork, Espresso

Revlon ColorStay in Brown and Blackberry - More info on these liners in the future, stay tuned :D

Sonia Kashuk Pencil Liner in Iced Coffee - Dark brown with brown glitters! So so so pretty and stays on all day.

Lash Curler:

Shu Uemura
Believe the hype.

Estee Lauder Sumptuous in 01 Black - Great every day mascara, thickens and lengthens without clumping. What more can a girl ask for?

Loreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes in Black
- Upcoming review on this!

Lancome Color Design in Pale Lip (Cream)
My go-to lipstick. Super moisturizing formula, never dries out the lips or enhances flakiness. Perfect shade of pink-nude.

Bare Escentuals Buxom Gloss in Amber - Amazing. Beautiful peachy color with fine shimmer, feels moisturizing on the lips and has the same minty-cooling effect as Burt's Bees original lip balm.

MAC Tendertone in Tender Baby, EZ Baby, Honey Bare
- Who doesn't love tendertones!?

The AMBI Challenge

I am a long time sufferer of Acne. I think I've tried just about every product for it on the market, and yet after $100's spent and slapping every chemical treatment in creation on my face, I'm still left with constellations of blemishes...

...and the brown spots they leave behind when they've had their way with my face.

I am now on the hunt for the perfect acne-scar treatment! So far, I've tried Mederma Cream for Scars (on the suggestion of YouTube's TheCurrentCustom) as well as Clean&Clear's Advantage Mark Treatment with little success.

Browsing the aisles of Walgreen's today, I came across AMBI Fade Cream for Normal Skin. At $4.99 for a 2 oz. tube, I had to purchase it. It claims to "visibly fade dark spots and skin discolorations for an even, natural skin tone [...] You will begin to see results in as little as 2 weeks with continued use."

When I got home, I hopped online and checked for reviews. Generally, it got good reviews, and I even learned there is an Oily Skin cream available (thought not at my Walgreens, of course) which will certainly be something to keep in mind if I see results from the product. Will start using it tonight, and will update on it again in a week or so!
